Suzuki lecture we heard the first few minutes of - 69-11-16 - Page for it on shunryusuzuki.com.
When I mentioned this was the last lecture of this group and only one given in San Francisco, the others given at the Haiku Zendo in Los Altos, the group referred to was the lectures that were used for Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind.
That gong was the introductory three hits of a bell introducing the Heart Sutra, the Hannya Shingyo, at Eiheiji, one of the two great monasteries of Soto Zen where Suzuki practiced. The recording was made in 1959 by John and Elsie Mitchel and comes from album titled the Way of Eiheiji. It's available on cuke.com here.
